PERFECT LIFE: NOTHING TO IT -- AN EASY JOB FOR JESUS
Actually, there was nothing simple about it. Had there been no risk, the
whole event of Christ's sacrifice would have been pointless. Jesus, became
human flesh and humbled all His heavenly glory, and lived and was tempted
as we are. The risk was that if He failed, He would suffer everlasting
separation from His Father. Since Christ had already known the Father and
what heaven was truely like, He had much at stake -- you don't miss what
you don't know about... well, He knew. His advantage was that He was born
via the Holy Spirit and did not have the corruption of sin on Him. He did
not share Mary's chromosomes; just like a test-tube-baby, Mary served as
an incubator, a vessle for birth.
If you had on your old clothes and were painting, a few drops here and
there wouldn't bother you. However, if you were wearing a pure white
tux, you would certainly avoid even walking through grass for fear of
stains. Or if you have an old klunker car, someone scratches the side
with a shopping cart, you really don't care, the scratch blends in with
all the others. If you have a freshly painted sports-car, a slight knick
from a pebble barely visible would fill you with agony. Here's where Christ
was far more sensitive to sin than we are. Even the slightest sin would
have hurt more than a greater sin hurts us. We've grown a callous to sin,
so even blantant defiant sin just doesn't impact our concience. The
slightest taint would have made Christ's perfection impure.
Satan targeted Christ and made continual efforts, yet Christ stood by
with the Word of God alone and rejected Satan's offers and tests.
